prg.ai Leadership Changes: Lukáš Kačena Appointed Government Commissioner for AI, Lenka Kučerová Returns to Lead the Organisation
Current Director Lukáš Kačena will step down from his role as of 1 February 2026 to take up the position of Government Commissioner for Artificial Intelligence. Lenka Kučerová, the association’s founder and first director, will assume interim leadership of the organisation.
The Government of the Czech Republic decided to appoint Lukáš Kačena as Government Commissioner for Artificial Intelligence at its meeting on 12 January 2026. This step reflects the growing importance of the AI agenda and the need for systematic coordination across public administration, the research sector, and industry. Kačena, who has led prg.ai since April 2022, will focus in his new role on the use of artificial intelligence in public administration and on strengthening Czechia’s active role in European digital policy.
“I see this appointment as a great honour and responsibility. At prg.ai, we have managed to build a strong community and put Czechia on the map of European artificial intelligence. I now want to put this experience to work at the government level,” says Lukáš Kačena. “My main task will be to use AI for the needs of the state, support research, and accelerate the adoption of technologies in practice.”
During Lukáš Kačena’s tenure, prg.ai reached a number of key milestones. These include launching the prg.ai partner programme and co-founding the Czech National AI Platform, which today connects hundreds of entities across the Czech AI ecosystem. Another major step forward was expanding the Days of AI festival from an originally Brno-based event to all regions of Czechia. In 2025, Days of AI attracted a total of 14,000 visitors in 35 cities. Under Lukáš’s leadership, the association also systematically focused on training public officials and strengthened its role in public policy advocacy in the field of artificial intelligence.
Lenka Kučerová will return as interim director from 1 February 2026. As the original director, she was there at the very beginning of the association and played a significant role in establishing it as a key player in the Czech AI ecosystem. In recent years, she has worked at prg.ai as Community and Partnerships Development Manager. Her role now will be to ensure organisational stability during the transition period, maintain the momentum of growth in the membership and partner base, and provide smooth continuity for strategic projects.
“I am genuinely thrilled about Lukáš’s appointment. It is a clear confirmation that four years ago we chose the right person. Through his work at prg.ai, he not only made a major contribution to the development of our organisation, but also built a highly relevant network and expertise for his new role,” says Lenka Kučerová. “This year, we will continue active collaboration with our members and partners, educating students, public officials, and the wider public, organising Days of AI and the AI Awards, and expanding the Czech AI database.”
